Mr. Pointing

Who I Am

My name is Richard Pointing, a computer science teacher based in Brooklyn, New York. I’ve been teaching for four years, and am self proclaimed jack-of-all-trades, master of some. I love to read, collect vinyl records, and have recently been trying to break into tattooing. You can see my progress for that here.

I grew up all over New York, starting in Queens and going to high-school in Long Island. I always knew I had passion- not just for one special task or topic, but for life in general. I do everything I can with as much gusto as I can provide. There’s a motto I’ve lead my life by; too much but never enough. My wife would say I love to suffer and make my life harder. I like to say life made me so overpowered, I need to give myself nerfs, otherwise it’ll be unfair to everyone else around me.

My focus is in Python, Linux, and building out material for my courses. This website is a test to see if I can start doing more things myself (choosing to use Hugo instead of Obsidian Publish). This website is an active collection of all of my notes for teaching all kinds of computer science topics, from Python, to Git, SQL, Linux, and more. After setting up a small home-lab system using an old laptop, I’ve started to also get into DevOps. You can also keep up with some of the specific things I’m doing here, on my Now page.
